Allahabad High Court's Decision on Amity Business School's De-recognition by AICTE

Amity Business school has been in news for all the wrong reasons of late. Of course, the owners Ashok Kumar Chauhan and Arun Kumar Chauhan have INTERPOL ARREST WARRANT. Information about it is available in the public domain through a simple google search and the document is the parliament question and answer session. But the Aaj Tak's and Outlook's of our land can never find it!

But the latest is that the peition Amity Business School (ABS), Noida filed in the Allahabad high court against AICTE has been dismissed by the court.. AICTE had withdrawn approval from the ABS PGDM program in 2005. Some of the Amity students affected by the decision have taken the institute to the Court. But this is a separate case from the AICTE one. You sould also pay special attention to the comment section of the JAM Mag (the magazine who published the story, ever heard about it apart from the blog circle?) Wow, I am impressed by the number of court cases this institute is fighting. I know two is not a big number but by Indian standards it is not small too.

Coming back to the petition flied by Amity against AICTE, the court has ruled in favor of AICTE. You can have a look at this court document available through AICTE website.

Quoting from the document:

"AICTE in its wisdom has choosen to withdraw recognition, as such its action being well within its bound, is not being interfered with.
....
Subject to observations made above, present writ petition is dismissed."

But we are never going to read about it in the media cause it will hurt their oh so precious advertisement revenues. Tehalka is the only paper that I know of and that has covered the Amity and the interpol connection. And that is why you should read blogs. Where else will you find breaking news of this kind?

IIPM has All Its rankings for 2005 from Business Barons: Natty Urges You to Serch for Business Barons on the Net

Seen those full page ads by IIPM gracing the Indian News papers? In a small margin, they claim some rankings.
Take note:

1. All the rankings for 2005 come from Business Barons.
2. One other line of ranking they have from a different source (India Today?) is for 2004.

Now go search for Business Barrons on google and all you will find is broken links. Nothing beyond that. What kind of a publication is that from where all the rankings for IIPM come? But then don't take my word for it. Go search now.

This is what it says and it is a question answer session from parliament where a minister says.

"a) Yes, Sir, valid warrants of arrest issued by German Judicial authorities against S/Shri Ashok Kumar Chauhan and Arun Kumar Chauhan, Directors of AMITY International, Ghaziabad, U.P. exist and the Interpol has issued Red-Corner-Notice Nos. 453/1990 and 459/1998 respectively at the request of Interpol Wiesbaden."

Will "Education Times" explain this methodology in rating business schools rather than taking assignments like covering bloggers meet?

I had a discussion with a journalist about this and it is pretty illuminating!

This is one example of how educational institutions are run in India and how the main stream media sleeps! Read this document, do you want your children to study in such places? If the answer is no, demand accountability from magazines and newspapers, write letters to the editors, and just do your bit.

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether it is a fact that Red Alert Notice by Interpol and International Warrants have been issued by German authorities against Indians for alleged fraud committed by Indians in Germany;

(b) whether Government has received any request/warrants from German Authorities for extradition of many businessmen in India; and

(c) what steps are being taken by Government to execute such warrants?

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

(a) Yes, Sir, valid warrants of arrest issued by German Judicial authorities against S/Shri Ashok Kumar Chauhan and Arun Kumar Chauhan, Directors of AMITY International, Ghaziabad, U.P. exist and the Interpol has issued Red-Corner-Notice Nos. 453/1990 and 459/1998 respectively at the request of Interpol Wiesbaden.

(b) Yes, Sir. The Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in India at New Delhi has requested for legal assistance in serving documents/extradition of Ashok Kumar Chauhan and Arun Kumar Chauhan.

(c) As per Article 6 of the Extradition Treaty between the Republic of India and the Federal Republic of Germany neither of the Contracting States shall be bound to extradite its own nationals. However, as per the same article, criminal prosecution may be effected, in India. Therefore, Ministry of Home Affairs, which is the nodal Ministry in such matters have been requested to proceed in accordance with law.
